The importance of Rituals

Do you have your rituals? Otherwise, is there something would you love to do every day and did not find time for it? I will show you in my story that everything is about priorities. Nobody is so busy!

The way I look at it, your days in our lives are your life in miniature. What you do today is actually creating your future. The words you speak, the thoughts you think, the food you eat, and the actions you take are definitions you take are defining your destiny, shaping who you are and what your life will stand for.

That is why I believe building our own rituals into your day is extremely important.

Taking little steps every day towards being a fitter, healthier, more positive and successful version of who you were the day before.

Life moves quickly. Our days become weeks, then months and, before you know it, another year has passed you by. Let it be a year of growth and improvement, not a year of standing still.

One of the most important and beneficial daily rituals I do for myself is rise early (usually around 5:30 a.m.) and take a couple of hours each morning for myself. I stretch and spend some time thinking, exercise, body brush, and shower.  I never look at my phone in the morning. I never look at emails before this. And then I have a delicious, healthy breakfast and read a few messages. I try not to start my day at full speed because I find allowing myself that all-importance ´me time’ in the morning make me a better person for the rest of the day.

Every morning you are reborn. What you do with your day, it is very important.

My next rituals include reading. I cannot imagine a day without reading. A great book by someone who is an expert in their field is like having a conversation with the author.

I love books. I love biographical books.

I love to read about people who inspire me, about the things I love, about traveling, about the things that make me laugh, about things I would like to learn or the news that is happening in the world. I had a period when I stopped reading the newspaper because I did not want to read about negative things. The political scene is one big theater. I was sad about it all. However, it started to miss me after a while and I started to read the newspaper again.  I have loved reading from a very early age. The writing of a reading diary was what I really like to do at school.

I believe that reading books develop my creative things.

One of the great things is that they are there for you whenever you need them and are a constant source of knowledge and support. I can´t imagine a day without reading, and my advise if you don´t already have a love of reading is to give it a try. Invest in your future and make the time to read something that inspires and nourishes you every day. What better way to learn new things and fill your mind with big ideas and dreams for your future!

Books are a drug with no danger of an overdose. I am the happy victim of books.

These are all things that are important to me and have become a non-negotiable part of my days. Sometimes it can be difficult to fit them in as well as everything else that the day brings. And that is why I have made them my rituals. Top athletes know that practice is how you get to greatness. Creating rituals that support the lifestyle you want, incorporating all the things you know will make you better and bring you closer to your goals, is a good way to start.

But remember, the whole point of rituals is to make sure you find time to do the things you should be doing, but also the things that you love.

It is important that you make these daily practices something you look forward to, so they enrich your life and you will actually want to do them. Find your own series of rituals and perform them with consistency. Don´t make excuses to skip them when you are too busy.

A balance in everyday life

For example, when you are travel, for instance, look at it as an opportunity to find more time to spend doing the things you love, or a chance to try new ways to exercise, discover local health food cafes or buy some new books to inspire your reading. That does not say you won´t, for instance, sleep late, skip an exercise session once in a while or eat a little too much chocolate. This is called a balance in everyday life. But as you continue to practice, your attitude gradually shifts, your rituals become habits and you´ll begin to see the rewards and positive chance that regular rituals can bring. These positive changes, of course, do not happen from day to day, but it will take you months, maybe a whole year.

Healthy food is not a punishment. It’s joy and lifestyle. You are responsible for everything you put in your mouth. Make breakfast so you can enjoy it.

Seydney, I love you

When I lived in Sydney, Australia, they told me that I must visit a friend’s aunt. I try to hold over my visit because I could not imagine what I would say with a 90-year-old aunt. I never saw her in my life. When I visited her, I was a very surprised. It was for me a wonderful experience which I will never forget. The aunt does not only speak Czech well, but I found she was a big reader. She reads Czech newspapers from the Czech Republic. We talked about everything.  She is a very positive person. It looks that we know each other years. On the walls, there were positive thoughts on the tiles that reminded her of what was most important in life. She told me about her rituals and I was excited about it. Every morning, she reads 1 sheet of 365 days with Buddha. It is mean that she reads every day one sheet – one thought. The most important thoughts she has on paper. She exercises every day. Every week she visits same old people and they exercise together. I found all about her absolutely amazing. I am sure that she has a high age not only because she breathes the fresh Australian air but also she has her own rituals.

Do you still think you cannot do that? Do you think your program is full? Yes, I have a full diary and sometimes I do not know what to do the first. I’m tired. I’ve found that life is about priorities.

Believe me, no one is so busy, it always depends on the priorities. Do you have time for Facebook? Then you have time for anything.

If you still do not think you cannot do it, make a little test. Write on a piece of paper things that you love and which you would like to do during the day. On the second piece of paper write down what you did last week. Compare these two sheets.  Now, make a few changes so that you include a few things in your program that you did not get on the second paper. Every other week add a new thing. In the end – from two lists become one. Yes, this is also a way how to create your rituals.
